NEW SPECIES FOR FUERTEVENTURA

November-December 2012. Wintering recent Fuerteventura (discovered in February 2012, more info here). Possible sighting in spring 2012 with a Tree Pipits group (Playitas Golf). The bird is reachable on planting casuarinas in Cañada del Rio now, but do not seem to use the same sites of the grove.

Status: presumably wintering.

WINTERING IN A WATER HAZARD

November-December 2012. Seabird. A Great Cormorant can be seen rarely inland on Fuerteventura. The last time was in Rosa de Catalina García in 2008. A specimen is winterig at Playitas Golf this time.

SHORT LIFE FOR A YOUNG RAVEN

Early January 2009. A couple of ravens installed its nest on power lines, near Pecenescal. The movements of Ravens (parent and youth) around the support line were duly studied in April (Environmental impact study, cooperation agreement: Endesa Distribución Eléctrica S.L. and SEO/BirdLife).

SUCH CAREFUL GAIT

Red-throated Pipit addition, other migratory pipit gave appointment in Fuerteventura during early spring passage 2012. A large group of tree pipits were observed at Playitas Golf, March 2012. Suspicious. Distinctive gait. They were looking for food in the grass.

PRENUPTIAL PASSAGE THIS TIME

March 2012. 4th consecutive year of Red-throated Pipit sightings in Fuerteventura. The birds were seen during migratory passage this time. Adults. Spring plumage. They took plumage care after breakfast, a great moment to film them.

BROWSING ALGAE

August 2011. Several young Ruffs chose Rosa de Catalina García to rest and feed during post-nuptial migration. Tireless. Excessive activity. Fast movements. Trouble-makers. One male bird was filmed while walked and feeding on wetland edge.

 Status: wintering and migratory passage, regular and scarce.

BREAK AT HIGH TIDE

November 2010. High tide. Three Grey Plovers rested on the coast, near Salinas del Carmen. Human presence did not matter to birds. Ten meters between the camera and plovers. Wintering plumage. Quiet but suspicious.

SUNSET SURPRISE

April 2008. Almost sunset. A bird came from the reeds while I picked up my birding equipment. A Black-crowned Night Heron. First sighting for Rosa de Catalina García. Birding at sunset can reward you.

THREE MUSKETEERS WINTER

November 2010. After breakfast, two Sandwich Terns tended their feathers at Salinas del Carmen. A third bird joined the rest period during recording. Winter plumage. Very Quiet. Precious. Full belly, happy heart.

A STRANGER AT TARAJALILLO

January 2012. A Glossy Ibis appeared at Tarajalillo. A new bird changes the color of the colony herons. A different bird overnight with Cattle and Little Egrets. Stylish. Moody. Disputes with other herons. New King of the colony.
